How can we practise better self-care?
How can we practise better self-care?
Self-care looks different for everyone, so here are some ideas you can hopefully schedule into your day or week to take some time for yourself.
- Pour a cup of tea, sit and shut your eyes for 3 minutes until you drink it.
- Walk the dog or just walk around the block playing a podcast, your favourite song or a walking meditation.
- Go for a swim/run/weight session/pilates or yoga class. Move your body!
- Grab a friend and either have a chat over coffee or a wine, go for a walk, go for a sauna or float – do something fun or relaxing with someone out of your regular routine.
- Have a massage, facial, manicure, pedicure or haircut.
- Turn the music up loud and dance like no one is watching – do it until you’re breathless.
- Stand up and stretch, then stretch a little bit more
- Breathe deeply, right into the pit of your stomach and when you breathe out, breathe out the stress and tension from your shoulders. Do it again. And again.
- Meditate – even if you just start with 3 minutes
- Run a bath, light a candle put some relaxing music on and soak for as long as you can. Then moisturise from head to toe and slip into bed,
- Organise a night out with people whose company you enjoy.
Who else will do it if you don’t?
But the problem is that you can’t continually look after someone else if you, or another person, isn’t looking after you.
If you don’t practice self-care, you will end up running on empty, and we all know what happens when the tank runs dry!
We are all responsible for looking after ourselves, so please take that responsibility seriously. You're worth it.
We'd love to chat if you would like to discuss your care needs
