Support When It's Needed Most

At Greater Support, we know that caring for a child or young person with additional needs can bring both joy and challenges. When families need time to rest, respond to a crisis, or navigate change, having trusted support by your side can make all the difference.

Specialised Substitute Residential Care, or SSRC, provides short-term, voluntary care for children and young people aged 5 to 17. These placements are designed to support the wellbeing of the child while giving families the breathing room they may need.

Who Can 'Specialised Substitute Residential Care' Support?

SSRC may be suitable for families facing a temporary disruption in care, needing time to manage personal circumstances, or requiring structured support for a child or young person during periods of emotional or behavioural change. It offers a compassionate option for parents or guardians who want to maintain involvement while receiving practical support.

What we offer

Through SSRC, we provide safe and flexible short stays that may include:

house-line-light (1)

Overnight or short-term accommodation outside the family home

users-three-light

Camps that support respite, regulation, or behavioural development

scales-light

Placements through the NSW Bail Assistance Program

calendar-check-light

Three or more nights of care within a seven-day period

Each arrangement is tailored to the child’s individual needs and takes place only with the informed consent of a parent or guardian.

How it works

Support can be planned ahead of time or arranged in response to urgent situations. We work closely with families to make sure each placement is respectful, safe, and aligned with the child’s routines and preferences.

Our placements are staffed by trained professionals who provide supervision, guidance, and emotional support throughout the child’s stay. Environments are designed to be home-like and calm, with a focus on safety, connection, and wellbeing.

There are several ways these supports may be funded. Please get in touch with us to explore what options might be available for your family.
