Support Coordination in Logan – Getting the Most from Your NDIS Plan

Support coordinator reviewing NDIS plan with client Logan

Your NDIS plan has been approved. You have a funded budget and a list of supports. Now what?

For many participants in Logan, this is where things stall. The plan is there, but making it work in real life takes time, knowledge and connections that most people simply do not have, especially if this is your first plan.

That is where a support coordinator comes in.

What Is a Support Coordinator?

A support coordinator is a person who helps you understand and use your NDIS plan. Think of them as a knowledgeable guide. Someone who knows the system, knows the local providers, and knows how to connect the dots between your plan and your daily life.

If your plan includes funding for Support Coordination, you can use those funds to work with a registered support coordinator in Logan at no out-of-pocket cost.

There are two levels of support coordination funded through the NDIS:

Support Coordination – Help to find, connect with, and manage your supports. Most participants with this funding level need help organising multiple services or navigating a more complex plan.

Specialist Support Coordination – A higher level of coordination for participants with more complex needs, including those dealing with mental health, complex disability, housing instability, or involvement with other government systems.

What Does a Support Coordinator Actually Do?

A good support coordinator in Logan will:

  • Help you understand what your plan funds and how to use it
  • Research and connect you with suitable NDIS providers in Logan and nearby areas
  • Set up service agreements between you and your providers
  • Help you build the capacity to eventually manage more of your own plan
  • Problem-solve when things go wrong
  • Prepare you for your plan review so your next plan reflects your changing needs

What a support coordinator does not do is make decisions for you. Their job is to give you the information, options and connections you need to make your own choices.

What Should You Look for in a Support Coordinator?

Not all support coordinators are equal. Here are some questions worth asking:

  • Are they registered with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission?
  • Do they work independently, or do they also provide direct supports?
  • Do they know local providers well, including those serving Logan Central, Woodridge, Beenleigh, Kingston and surrounding suburbs?
  • Will they meet with you in person, or only by phone?
  • Do they communicate clearly and at a pace that suits you?
  • Do they respect your goals, or do they push their own agenda?

A support coordinator who genuinely knows Logan will understand the community here. Logan is fast-growing, deeply multicultural, and has one of the highest NDIS participation rates in Queensland.

How Do You Find Out if You Have Support Coordination in Your Plan?

Log in to the myplace portal on the NDIS website, or call the NDIS on 1800 800 110. Your plan will show whether you have Support Coordination or Specialist Support Coordination funding under the Capacity Building category.

If you do not currently have support coordination in your plan, speak to your LAC or ask your plan manager. In some cases, you can request it be added at your next plan review.
