What This Support Actually Looks Like
These are flexible, community-based services delivered in your home and in your community. They are not about surveillance or reporting. They are about practical support, at the right time, before things escalate.
Depending on your situation, support can include in-home help with daily routines and parenting, short-term crisis response when things become acute, case coordination connecting your family to housing and health and community services, support for young people navigating school or mental health, respite for carers who are running on empty, and support for families managing a child’s complex disability needs at home.

The Queensland Framework
In Queensland, the main early intervention entry points are Family and Child Connect (FaCC) and Intensive Family Support (IFS), both operating under updated January 2025 guidelines. FaCC is the community-based front door, assessing what your family needs and connecting you to the right services without triggering statutory involvement. IFS offers deeper, consent-based case management for families with children at risk of statutory involvement, for up to 9 months.

Why Early Support Changes Outcomes
The AIHW’s Child Protection Australia 2023-24 report found 44,900 children in out-of-home care at 30 June 2024, 7.7 per 1,000 children nationally. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children accounted for half of those, at 50 per 1,000. These numbers are not inevitable. Early, genuine, community-based family support changes outcomes, for children, for parents, and for communities.
