Our Commitment to Child Safety and Wellbeing

We want all children and young people to be safe, well, happy, and empowered. Supporting and showing respect to all children and young people, and our staff, is at the core of what we do.

Greater Support stands firmly for the safety, wellbeing, and empowerment of every child and young person who connects with our services. Every child and young person deserves to feel safe, to be listened to, and to grow in an environment where their dignity is honoured and their needs are understood. We support and respect all children, young people, families, and team members as part of one community where everyone belongs and has a voice.

Our commitment to the safety, wellbeing, participation, and empowerment of all children and young people means we're dedicated to promoting and protecting their rights.

We have zero tolerance for placing children or young people at risk, including abuse and neglect. All allegations and safety concerns are treated with the utmost seriousness and managed in line with our robust policies and procedures.

We aim to prevent harm by identifying risks early and taking proactive steps to remove or reduce them.

We rigorously uphold both legal and moral obligations to contact authorities whenever there are concerns about a child or young person’s safety or wellbeing.

All staff and volunteers have a duty to act ethically and uphold the safety and wellbeing of children and young people at all times.

We maintain strong human resources and recruitment practices for all staff. Our team receives regular training and education on how to identify and respond to potential risks of harm, including abuse.

We uphold the right to cultural safety for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people. Equally, we provide an inclusive and safe environment for children and young people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, and for those living with disability.

We protect the personal information of children, young people, and their families. All information (considered or recorded) is handled respectfully and in line with privacy principles, unless a risk to someone’s safety requires otherwise. Everyone is entitled to know how their information is recorded, how it will be used, and who can access it. We have clear processes in place for seeking consent from parents, children, and young people for relevant activities and information collection.

We have specific policies, procedures, and training that equip our team to uphold these commitments and promote a safe, inclusive environment for all children and young people.

We want children and young people to be safe, well, happy, and empowered. The processes and policies outlined above help us maintain support and respect for all children and young people, as well as our staff.
